Fire and Emergency

More firefighting and EMS professionals depend on Cummins than any other diesel engine.

We offer a complete range of diesel engines from 260 to 600 horsepower (194-447 kW) for everything from ambulances to pumpers. We also offer a full range of hydraulic generators, power take-off (PTO) generators and standby generators.

Designed for the Fire Service.

Cummins has been powering the fire service since 1937. With the best power to weight ratio and strong auxiliary braking, departments get the best vehicle control.  Specific calibrations integrated with the fire pressure governor interface provide the best engine RPM or discharge pressure control for better pump control. We work to provide full integration with the fire pressure governor.

Better Reliability And Durability.

Cummins designs, develops and supports every component from fuel systems to exhaust aftertreatment as a totally integrated system. This allows us to optimize every function better than other engine manufacturers. We work closely with OEMS to make sure systems are integrated to the highest standards.

The proven Cummins Aftertreatment System uses Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, all working together to maximize efficiency and lower emissions. NOx is reduced through cooled Exhaust Gas Recirculation in the engine, then virtually eliminated through a catalytic reaction in the aftertreatment system.

Better Performance.

At Cummins, we're never satisfied with the status quo.  The X15 engine is the most powerful engine in fire service with up to 605 hp and up to 2050 lb-ft of torque. The new X12 offers 600 pound weight savings giving greater flexibility in cab design in addition to longer maintenance intervals.  The L9 has been continuously improved over the last 30+ years including numerous enhancements of the turbo to increase transient response and components with increased heat tolerance.  New single module aftertreatment and DEF control result in fewer regenerations.

Better Technology.

For a more detailed look at how Cummins integrated technology optimizes performance and reliability while delivering near-zero emissions, please view this Cummins Aftertreatment System Overview for Fire Engines video.
